The formula
Count every date from the start to the end inclusive, drop Saturdays and Sundays, then subtract the number of public holidays that fall on a weekday.
Worked example
From 1 to 30 June 2026 there are 30 calendar days, 22 of them weekdays. With one public holiday, 21 working days.

Questions people ask
Why not build in a holiday calendar?
Holiday dates move, differ by region, and some are announced only weeks ahead. A stale built-in list would be worse than asking.
Are working days the same as business days?
In everyday use, yes. In a contract, read the definition clause: some define them as days when banks are open in a named city.
