Scientific calculator
Type an expression or use the keypad. Brackets, implicit multiplication and right-associative powers all work the way they do on paper, so 2π, 3(4+1) and 2^3^2 give what you expect.
The formula
Expressions are parsed by precedence: brackets, then functions and factorials, then powers (right-associative), then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Implicit multiplication binds like an explicit one, so 2π is 2 × π.
Worked example
2 × (3 + 4)² is 98. sin(30) in degrees is 0.5. √16 + ln(e) is 5. 2^3^2 is 512, because powers group from the right.
How to use it
- 1Available functions: sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, sinh, cosh, tanh, ln, log, log2, sqrt, cbrt, abs, exp, round, floor, ceil, sign. Constants: pi, e, phi, tau.
- 2Use ! for factorials and % to divide by a hundred, so 50% is 0.5.
- 3Watch the angle unit. Trigonometry in the wrong mode is the most common wrong answer on any calculator.
Questions people ask
Why is 2^3^2 equal to 512 and not 64?
Powers are right-associative in mathematics, so it reads as 2^(3^2) = 2^9. Some spreadsheets evaluate left to right and give 64, which is a convention of those programs rather than of mathematics.
Does anything I type get sent anywhere?
No. The expression is parsed and evaluated in your browser. There is no server call, and nothing is stored.
